The announcement of Brian Wilson’s death on Wednesday 11th June 2025 was met with a resounding sadness and gratitude for all that Wilson’s musical genius has done for the world.

Elton John described him as ‘the biggest influence on [his] songwriting ever, […] a musical genius and revolutionary’ while Paul McCartney shared how privileged he felt ‘to be around his bright rshining light for a little while.’

The brain behind such iconic hits as ‘God Only Knowsr’, ‘Good Vibrations’, ‘Wouldn’t It Be Nice’, ‘Surfin’ USA’, ‘I Get Around’, and so many more, Wilson threw down the gauntlet to his contemporaries, challenging them to continue experimenting, continue innovating, continue pushing.

As the Beatles’ producer, George Martin, once said ‘Without [The Beach Boys’] Pet Sounds, Sgt Pepper [by the Beatles] never would have happened.’
