The Story of Woodstock: Through the Words of the People Who Were There (Woodstock Festival took place from 15th-18th August 1969)
This week marks 56 years since the iconic Woodstock Festival took place in Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, New York.
It was organised by local New Yorkers, Michael Lang, Artie Kornfeld, Joel Rosenman, and John P Roberts, and is remembered just as much for its legendary performances as its organisational and weather-related mishaps.
There were wet stages, electric shocks, underestimated crowd numbers, stage invasions, and financial blunders.
Despite the issues, Woodstock’s line-up came through and gave us an event for the ages. Performers included Jimi Hendrix, Santana, The Who, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, The Band, Joe Cocker, Sly and the Family Stone, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and The Grateful Dead.
